FAQ

Q1 Who are clyderunners?

We are a running club, formed in 2013, which aims to provide a good social atmosphere in which to run.  The club has members across the wide spectrum of running abilities, both male and female. Members represent different age groups above the minimum age of 18 years.

Q2 In which geographical area do clyderunners run?

Our growing membership live in both North and South Lanarkshire but members do not need to live close by to run with us.

Q3 Are clyderunners elite runners?

To steal a response from Troon Tortoises ….

“HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, sorry,….NO!”

Q4 What standard of runners do you have?

Clyderunners members may best be described as being a “mixed ability group”.  Some can run really far, some really fast, some can do both and others can do neither but enjoy being out in good company and sharing banter along the way.

Q5 Where and when do clyderunners meet?

Clyderunners meet every Tuesday and Friday at the entrance to Carluke Leisure Centre, Carnwath Road, Carluke leaving at 6.30 pm.  On a Sunday we meet at 9.30 am, the location changes weekly so please check the Facebook page for details.

Potential new members are welcome to just turn up but if you prefer you can contact us beforehand and someone will be there to look out for you and will also let you know if the standard meet up arrangements apply on that particular date.

Q6 Do I have to be of a certain standard to join clyderunners?

Clyderunners welcome joggers/runners of all standards but feel that beginners may benefit from completing a few blocks on the excellent programme provided by jogscotland groups.  Graduates of jogscotland “Intermediate 2” standard will find themselves fully at home with clyderunners.

See https://www.facebook.com/carjogscot?ref=hl for contact details of Carluke jogscotland.

Q7 What do clyderunners do on a typical training night?

Tuesday night tends to focus on speed work and/or hill efforts, Friday night is an easy bimble around the town, whilst Sunday is a longer slow run through the beautiful scenery of rural South Lanarkshire.

Occasionally the Bees Go on Tour and this will always be on a Sunday.  This provides the perfect opportunity for clyderunners to run on the local patch of our more distantly located members.

Again, the facebook page will provide more information on all weekly runs.

Q8 Do I have to join clyderunners before being permitted to run?

No, you are more than welcome to run with clyderunners for a few weeks before committing to join.  You may also wish to try out other local clubs before deciding clyderunners is the most friendly and welcoming.  We’ll wait whilst you check out the competition before you come back and join us!

Q9 How much does it cost to join clyderunners?

The membership year runs from 1st January – 31st December.

The fee for 2016 has been set at an affordable £15.00.

Clyderunners team kit is available at net cost.

Q10 Do I need any special equipment to run with clyderunners?

No, if you're already a jogger it’s likely that you’ll have the kit you need.  The only club clothing required is a club vest which should be worn at races if entering as a clyderunner.  Oh yes.... and the ability to get muddy, have a sense of humour and be able to laugh at yourself and others would be real assets.
